When I entered the home care business, I discovered the enormous expense associated with care after accident or illness. My mother bought long-term care insurance (LTCi) from you in 2003.   In October 2008, she began collecting from her policy at the rate of about $4,000/month and will soon be collecting up to almost $5000/month.  Since she began collecting, she is no longer required to make premium payments.  She has now been on claim for over two years and has already collected more than $100,000 from her policy.   In mother’s case, she has a lot of wealth.  Her financial advisor told her she did not need to purchase long term care insurance (LTCi) because she had enough wealth to self-insure for her care.  I am so glad she finally agreed to purchase it.  I can sincerely attest that owning LTCi has made a world of difference—for the better—in how things have turned out for my family.  Mom always admired and told us she wanted to live at The Forum retirement community. I recognize the odds of needing long-term care are high.  I can afford to pay the cost of this care if I need it, however I love my kids and would like to leave something for them if possible. My long-term care insurance will enable me to leave something for my kids and choose whatever type of care I want.  I am a professional who works with the elderly and am aware of some of the difficulties some clients have recently had to face. These are the most uncertain times I can remember. I know people who had saved properly and invested conservatively, yet now their incomes are lower then projected while expenses have unfortunately increased. We are so grateful Neal bought long-term care insurance (LTCi).  He is now suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).  He needs help eating, dressing, bathing, and walking.  The LTC policy you sold him is paying for his caregiver, Martha to help him while I’m at work.
